This past week I returned to the hospital on my two week follow up from a surgery similar to the one I had in 2008. It was a Urology type surgery. The doctors said it was a complete success! It was nice to hear those words because I have lots of living to do. The second part of the follow up was something you think only happens to other people. In doing a biopsy on my Prostate since I had a increase in my PSA level they found cancer. When I heard those words it was like I was having an out of body experience. Almost like I was hearing it said to another person. There was no stress, no worry ( at least at that time), and no concern. I can't explain it, but even as I write this there is a peace that I have...again no explanation except I think it's God. Compared to what other people go through this is nothing. Many people, in the church I pastor, have and are walking through tremendous challenges in their body and yet are at peace. The good news is the cancer is contained in the prostate. After I write this I am on my way to the University of Washington Hospital to meet with the oncologist to discuss my options of treatment. I thank God I live at this time in history where the survival rates is high when its caught early. One of the important questions I asked the doctors was, when can I get back on my Harley....again there are priorities. They said in time for the riding season, now that is great news!
Life is good and God is very good. We know as followers of Jesus there is more to life than this side of eternity. God let's us have so many years on this earth and then the real living begins....Eternity. I feel sad for people who don't have that hope, that promise, and that assurance of heaven. Let's continue to keep in mind what really counts, what gives us a little heaven on this earth.
